The 2018 Hoops Recruiting Calendar

Updated April 2, 2018 by StLouHoo

The off-season recruiting cycle can be a confusing one, with multiple AAU circuits to track, a variety of all-star events and camps that recruits attend, and different periods of allowed or restricted college/player contact per the NCAA. We've put together this quick calendar to cover the April through August cycle, covering the big shoe circuit events and camps of note, as well as the NCAA-imposed open/dead/quiet periods. For recruitniks, feel free to keep this page bookmarked over the next few months as a reference if you're wondering what's going on in any given month.

We're going to be updating this page throughout the spring and summer with our coaching staff's activity, who went to watch which AAU camps, which recruits visited when, etc. Hopefully it becomes a sort of chronology of Virginia recruiting this summer.

For reference, you can find the 2017-18 NCAA recruiting calendar at this link.

Here are the NCAA's definitions:

Contact Period or Recruiting Period: During a contact period a college coach may have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, watch student-athletes compete and visit their high schools, and write or telephone student-athletes or their parents.

Evaluation Period: During an evaluation period a college coach may watch college-bound student-athletes compete, visit their high schools, and write or telephone student-athletes or their parents. However, a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents off the college’s campus during an evaluation period.

Quiet Period: During a quiet period, a college coach may only have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents on the college’s campus.  A coach may not watch student-athletes compete (unless a competition occurs on the college’s campus) or visit their high schools. Coaches may write or telephone college-bound student-athletes or their parents during this time.

Dead Period: During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.
